What are the differences between neoclassical, modern neoclassical, and country styles in interior design? information

Do you like wainscoting on ceilings, walls, and doors? Do you enjoy an elegant, gorgeous, and graceful atmosphere? All four styles utilize wainscoting, but the atmosphere they present is completely different.

The art of ancient Greece and Rome is known as classical art, which emphasizes proportion, order, reason, and symmetry. It is also referred to as classicism, and has served as a basis for artistic development in later periods.

There has been a trend of retro in design and aesthetics, and Neoclassicism is a retro movement in the 19th century.

Neoclassical style

Confronted with the highly decorative Baroque and Rococo styles of the 18th century, a movement emerged to revive and transform the art of ancient Greece and Rome. This movement emphasized simplicity of lines and structures, geometric forms, and the aesthetics of classical antiquity, which were applied to various artistic fields including architecture and interior design.

Just like how after eating a lot of heavily flavored food, we may want something lighter, in this process of simplifying and streamlining decoration, the elegant classical style is incorporated. This is also a key aspect that interior designers must master when it comes to the New Classical style.

style characteristics

A. Proportional form is a retro movement that applies the classical principles of proportion to interior design, dividing ceilings, wall panels, and door panels symmetrically to create a sense of order and harmony.

B. The use of paneling and wallpaper is often combined with the application of proportional form, using paneling to divide spaces in proportion. Unique wallpapers are often chosen to accentuate and highlight focal walls in interior spaces.

C. The selection and placement of soft furnishings and furniture are important in achieving the elegant look of new classical style interiors. Complementing the style with appropriately designed furniture and accent pieces can help create a cohesive and complete atmosphere, while soft furnishings such as curtains and carpets can further enhance the overall look and feel of the space.

Commonly confused style types

Barocco

"Artistic style developed in painting, sculpture, and architecture from the 17th to the 18th century":

This artistic style developed in painting, sculpture, and architecture from the 17th to the 18th century. It emerged during the period of religious reform and European colonization and wealth accumulation, so the art of this period often used exaggerated techniques to represent wealth and social status. Architecture focused on the shaping of spatial volumes, and materials such as marble, sculpture, and murals were commonly used. Decorative and dividing elements were often based on elliptical, circular, or geometric shapes. The Baroque period preceded the Neoclassical period, which simplified and reduced decorative elements and placed more emphasis on orderly division. Baroque design often incorporated more gold and luxurious elements.

Rococo

During the 18th century, after the Baroque period, the Rococo style emerged, which emphasized interior decoration in Baroque architecture, using asymmetrical, shell-shaped, branch-like, and sensuous decorative curves. Plaster sculpture, chandeliers, and gold were used in a delicate manner, with more focus on wall and furniture decoration. Soft color tones were also favored, and the overall style of the interior was emphasized.

The Rococo period predates Neoclassicism, and both Rococo and Baroque styles emphasize decoration, but their techniques differ significantly. The biggest difference between Rococo and Neoclassicism is the curved and asymmetrical decoration in the former.

Rustic style

A type of home style commonly found in early European and American agricultural societies, which uses materials such as solid wood, stone, iron, and bricks. It is also characterized by the use of paneling and various warm and simple decorative surfaces on the surfaces of solid wood cabinets.

Country style is simple and plain, while neoclassical style is more elegant, and the material selection of the two is also very different.

But in the later period, there emerged "modern country" (a combination of country style, modern furniture, and minimalist style) which is more similar to modern neoclassical style mentioned later, and can be distinguished based on color schemes and material selection.

In addition to incorporating the Neoclassical style, the modern Neoclassical style also combines contemporary art and design. Complex moldings are replaced with clean geometric lines, and modern-style furniture is used. The proportion and division of the Neoclassical elements are retained, extending a new wave of retro style.
